Like most web developers, I've heard a lot about the importance of valid html recently. I've read about how it makes it easier for people with disabilities to access your site, how it's more stable for browsers, and how it will make your site easier to be indexed by the search engines.
So, I recently started to design the site, I'm sure I examined every page of each site. But I began to think? While it may make it easier to index my site What is the means to improve my search engine rankings? How many of the top sites, there is a valid HTML?

Why I'm NOT "The King Of Pay Per Clicks"

Back in the Spring of 2003, I was at Joel Christopher's Master List Builder Workshop. Marlon Sanders was up speaking. We had never formally met, but Marlon had obviously read some of the things that I'd written on using pay per click advertising.

Back then, I was heavily into pay per click advertising, and had even done TWO teleseminars with my friend Marty Foley on the topic. We called the teleseminars "Master The Pay Per Clicks." We recorded the teleseminars and sold those recordings for a long time.

I still use the recordings from those teleseminars a few places because much of the information is timeless. Marty and I taught a lot of testing and tracking. What has changed most since then is primarily the rules and policies at the pay per clicks... and which search engines are the most important. We taught solid basics back then, and they still work.

Anyway, as Marlon was doing his presentation, he spotted me in the audience, and used what I did as a simple, proven model of generating a steady flow of traffic to your website and converting it to sales.

Back then, for every $1 that I invested in pay per click traffic, I generated $7 in profit. Not a bad return on investment!

Marlon referred to me as "The King Of Pay Per Clicks" and asked me a few basic questions. I answered them, and Marlon proved his points. I absorbed and later applied what Marlon taught during that fateful presentation. I applied what I learned during that time spent in "Automobile U" ... the 26 hours driving back and forth between San Antonio. Both learning experiences shifted my think in major ways.

Later that year, Ramon Williamson coached me and provided me with a lot of much needed direction. When I mentioned to him that Marlon had dubbed me as "The King Of Pay Per Clicks," he asked if I really wanted to be "pigeon holed" by that title.

Ramon asked me to clarify what "I" wanted to be known for on the Internet marketing landscape. Back then, I decided that I really wanted to be a coach and a mentor. That's what I still get the greatest joy from doing online.

So, while I did leverage the fact that an "Internet marketing icon" had dubbed me "The King Of Pay Per Clicks," I also took Ramon's advice to heart and distanced myself from the label.

Today, as back then, I realize that without traffic to your website, your web business CANNOT be successful. You simply need visitors to a webpage who, upon arriving, take the desired action.

I had no idea what I was going to do with that domain, but I KNEW that not having enough website traffic was what "pained" most webmasters, and that if I could show them how to get an unlimited stream of website traffic, I had a product that they would trip over themselves to get.

Marty Foley and I did discuss creating a joint product that would be an "encyclopedia" of proven methods of generating website traffic. Perhaps because I still hadn't learned enough back then, I didn't tackle a job that I didn't feel totally qualified for.

I did nothing with that domain, and even allowed the name to expire, but later re-registered it.

Back in December 2002, I first met John Reese at a seminar at Hawks Cay, down in The Florida Keys. That was at the same seminar where I first met Ramon Williamson and Marty Foley. Ramon, Marty and I all gave presentations. As time progressed, I got to know John better, and he and Ramon attended the very first seminar that I hosted. Ramon spoke, and John totally riveted attendees during conversations held in the back of the room during breaks (and at meals).

John demonstrated his marketing savvy when in March of 2004, he conducted his sell-out, $4500 per seat, seminar on website traffic tactics. John leveraged that seminar into his Traffic Secrets Course, which made him $1 million in under a DAY!

John validated for me that REALLY studying traffic generation, and then teaching others how to generate website traffics was an excellent use of my time.

Between 1996 and today (11 years) I have studied just about every website traffic generation tactic imaginable. Over time, I learned which ones worked consistently "for me" (long-term) and which ones required the least expense and effort.

Today, after sifting through what must be over 100 possible traffic generation tactics, I have just a few core tactics that I use and teach. I even have my "Top 10 Best Free Traffic Generation Techniques." Those are THE techniques that worked for me yesterday, and will work for me tomorrow, without my having to struggle staying up with the latest search engine tricks.

I'd rather go fishing, or spend time playing with my grandchild, than spend countless hours chasing after the latest, usually very short-lived, search engine tricks. This strategy is so powerful, that on one site that I recently setup and promoted using my "Top 10 Free Traffic Generation Techniques" I generated over 1 million visitors in under 60 days. Needless to say, the site is a success, and will earn me a nice income stream for a very long time.

The term' niche marketing' can mean different things to different people but generally it means the developing of websites in sub mainstream market segments to profit from selling products, generating advertising revenue or other forms of website monetization. Another term could be Micro-trend Marketing.

Niche marketing allows you to operate in less competitive markets, thus giving you greater opportunities and potential to succeed with less cost and effort.

Niche marketing can be particularly good for people new to Internet marketing and niche marketing can be the key to riches because it allows you to compete on a level playing field. You don't have to compete with thousands of heavyweight competitors and you can use the experience to develop your skills in the junior divisions before moving into the big leagues.

If you pick the right niche you can build your site, establish yourself as an expert, sell your own products, recommend other people's products - the opportunities can be endless and good money can certainly be made.

Niche marketing is becoming increasing popular. So much so that markets that were once called niches are almost as hard to break into and make profits as many mainstream markets.

The obvious makets are acne, dog training, and anxiety. Markets like these, while they can still be profitable, will not make the average web marketer a lot of money at all. Even the more nichey versions, acne treatments, dog training videos or anxiety relief are often difficult for most people to compete in and make money from.

It is possible to go to the opposite extreme. You can go to such tiny niches that they get almost no search volume. Yes, you can find "long-tail" keywords for specific markets, such as 'pug training in Atlanta' or "acne treatments that work in 2 days" but they will be too specific to make much money. etc, but the problem with these are a) that they often don't get enough traffic and b) they are so specific that even if you can drive traffic, there isn't much you can do to serve those people except show them ads. Again this can be profitable if you know how to do it but, as I'm sure you are already thinking, there just has to be an easier way - and there is!

Finding the perfect balance between competition and search volumn is the way to make the most money from niche marketing. Not only that but they know how to analyze the nature of a niche market to determine how much potential it really has before they enter it.

By doing this they find markets that can make them big money very quickly, faster than most people think possible.Then when they do find the markets they will also know how to make sites that will capitalize on them as effectively and efficiently as soon as possible. The result? Make big profits quickly, and without too much cost or effort.

Niche marketing can, without doubt, be wildly profitable if done correctly. It's just a question of knowing where to look!

I started investigating get paid to or GPT sites as a natural extension of paid survey websites. While they are different, there are also some similarities such as the low barrier to entry and the fact that some GPT sites also host surveys. You will always find scams on the internet there's no doubt of that and the get paid to industry is no exception. However, there are many legitimate and credible GPT sites out there that are being run by responsible business people that will listen to your concerns and will pay on time every month.

My advice would be to stick with the established get paid to sites because you know their track record of paying users. As with other areas on the internet be cautious of new sites and work within the GPT rules and you'll be fine.

No matter what you are trying to sell, you need to communicate and talk to the buyer. When you send out a sales letter to a possible buyer, you will be talking directly to the person through this letter.

Overall, a winning sales letter follows a time-tested and proven formula:

1) Get his attention

2) Get him interested in what you can do for him

3) Make him desire the benefits of your product so badly his mouth begins to water

4) Demand action from him - tell him to click the right button or send for whatever it is you're selling without delay - any procrastination on his part might cause him to lose out. This is called the "AIDA" formula: (Attention, Interest, Desire and Action) - It works.

Preparing your sales letter means you need to understand the product or service being offered, the market, and the customer's needs. There is no substitute for product or service knowledge. Any source of information should be considered. On-Line resources, ads, brochures, articles, books, reports, newsletters and newspapers, and in-person interviews, are good sources.

On your website, your sales page should be the length of what it would be if were doing a mailing, or longer if you're using bullets to emphasize benefits to build the desire. Your sales letter sould leave your customer wondering what to do next. The brochure or circular you send along with in your mailing will just reinforce what you say in the sales letter, the actual sale and close must be accomplished by your sales letter.

There's been a great deal of discussion in the past few years regarding just how long a sales letter should be. A lot of people are asking: People will actually take the time to read a long sales letter if written compellingly? The answer is a simple and time-tested yes indeed! Surveys and tests over the years continue prove that "longer sales letters" pull even better than the shorter ones, so don't worry about the length of your sales letter - just make sure that it sells your product for you!

The "inside secret" is to make your sales letter so interesting, and "compelling" with all the benefits you're offering to the customer, that they can't resist reading it all the way through. You break up the "work" of reading by using short, punchy sentences, underlining important points you're trying to make, with the use of sub-headlines, indentations and even the use of a second color, and leaving lots of white space around it.

On your website, the sales letter should run down the middle of the page so the viewer doesn't have to keep adjusting the screen to see the whole sentence. This is very confusing and more likely to send that customer to a competitors website than losing patience reading a long letter.

With your brochures and circulars you include in your mailing with your sales letter ? make sure the materials you're enclosing are high quality, professionally printed and they will generally reinforce the sale for you.

If they look cheap and don't compliment your sales letter, then you shouldn't be using them. You will be identified as an independent home worker if you hand-stamp your name/address on these brochures or advertising circulars instead of having them printed.

Whenever possible, if you have really good brochures to send out, have your printer run them through his press and print your name/address - even your telephone number and company logo - on them before you send them out. You want your prospect to think of you as his supplier ? The Company - and not as just another independent entrepreneur.

Above all, you've got to include some sort of ordering page or coupon if you're mailing. The coupon has to be as simple and as easy to fill out and return as you can possible make it.

The order page on your website should already be filled out, with perhaps just the shipping left to choice. If your product is an eBook or software to be instantly downloaded, then you don't have any options to be chosen.

A great many sales are lost because the order coupon is just too complicated for the would-be buyer to follow. Don't get fancy! Keep it simple, and you'll find your customers returning over and over again.

Hot: BLinq - Linq to Bing Search APIs

As part of validating and playing with some of the extensibility features in .NET RIA Services, I needed to write a LINQ provider. This was also a good opportunity to delve into some of the deeper technical aspects of the IQueryable construct, expression trees and related concepts, which I had not gotten into first-hand until now. For my prototyping, I decided to write a LINQ provider for querying Bing to search for pages and images. This post will focus on using the LINQ provider itself, and seeing it in action, and in my next post I'll tie it all back to .NET RIA Services. I am calling this BLinq. :-)

Bing has a new search API that provides you the option of using REST interface (XML or JSON) or a SOAP interface. My LINQ provider provides a more natural LINQ syntax that you can now use without having to worry about protocol details, web requests, URIs etc. Under the covers the LINQ functionality builds on the REST/XML API.

Here is an example of a basic search for pages using BLinq:

Simple enough? BingContext is very much like a Linq-to-SQL DataContext. It has a Pages property of type IQueryable<PageSearchResult> (ala a Table<T> in a DataContext). Of course this is LINQ, and so you can use standard LINQ constructs like Skip and Take for example to page over the search results. For example:

BLinq provides a fluent interface to configure one or more additional options when invoking a search request. For example, say I want to search for pizza in Redmond:

Other options include scoping results to a particular site. For example, I want to search for Silverlight-related content on my site:

So far I've been showing examples that search for pages. BLinq also supports searching for images. For example, say I want to search for images of Yellowstone, and turn on the strict filter (another example of an option I can specify on the query):

Generally speaking, BLinq works like any other LINQ provider for the set of capabilities provided by the underlying API (where clause on the Query member, Skip and Take). As a result, not only does the code look consistent with other LINQ code, but standard tools for LINQ just work (as well as higher level frameworks). Here is a screenshot of experimenting with BLinq in the LINQPad tool.

The Implementation

Under the covers, BLinq contains an implementation of IQueryable that is backed by a Bing-based implementation of IQueryProvider. This query provider is responsible for walking the LINQ expression trees created by the app developer and turning the expression tree into a corresponding URI suitable for use with the Bing API. When asked to execute the expression, the query provider uses that URI to issue a web request, and materialize search results from the resulting response XML. If you're interested in understanding the basics of writing such a LINQ provider, you might find BLinq an interesting sample to study, as is is both self-contained without lots of dependencies, and a small enough implementation to understand it all the way through. If you have ever had the draw to day trading stocks you know that it can be a lot of fun. However, without the right efforts put into making wise decisions you will quickly find that you fail to actually make the correct decisions. Unfortunately, if you own the exact same investment inside an S corporation, you'll need to file a full-blown S corporation tax return. May Trigger More Complicated Accounting You what else happens when you put real estate inside an S corporation? Very probably, you'll be forced to use a small business accounting system like QuickBooks. Why? Because when you do your S corporation tax return, you'll need to include not just statements of income and deductions in your return. You'll also need to include balance sheets at the start and at the end of the year. Checkbook programs like Quicken will produce statements of income and deductions. No problem. But you'll probably need to buy, learn and then use a full-fledged small business accounting system to produce good balance sheets if you're doing your real estate investing inside an S corporation. Note: Technically speaking, an S corporation doesn't need to include balance sheets with its corporate income tax return until the corporation's assets exceed $250,000. In some areas of the country, accordingly, a small real estate investor might be able to own one or more properties and not tip over this threshold. In many parts of the country, however, a single property will cost more than $250,000 and, therefore, will mean balance sheets are required if the investment is stored inside an S corporation. Limits Your Depreciation Write-offs A real estate investment S corporation will also often limit your depreciation write-offs. Why this occurs is a little tricky to understand. But in a nutshell, when individuals and partnerships borrow money to purchase the real estate, they may be able claim tax write-offs for depreciation on the owner tax returns. Note: There are rules which limit these so-called passive losses. But if you can trick your way around the passive loss limitation rules--and maybe people can--you can use the depreciation as a tax deduction on your personal return. So here's the problem with an S corporation: You can't get tax deductions for things the S corporation borrows money for. If the S corporation purchases the real estate using a mortgage, for example, the S corporation's shareholders probably won't be able claim the depreciation loss. During one of the very first classes of my Bachelor of Science in Physics, I got struck with a particular piece of information that sounded like a revelation to me:

If a problem exhibits a certain symmetry, the solutions to this problem do not necessarily exhibit that same symmetry, but the set of solutions always does.

The example my professor was using to illustrate this is the following. Imagine you have the four summits of a square and you want to find how to connect each point to all of the others using lines, but the total length of those lines must be as small as possible.

The problem itself has mirror symmetry, central symmetry and rotational symmetry with an angle of 90 degrees. In other words, the four summits are perfectly equivalent and can be exchanged without changing the problem in any way.

Now here’s the weird thing. There are two solutions, which are themselves less symmetrical than the problem itself and that look something like this:How to minimally connect the summits of a square

Notice how rotating any one of those by an angle of 90 degrees doesn’t keep it unchanged, but instead gives the other solution. In other words the set of solutions (those two solutions together) has exactly the same symmetries as the problem itself although each one of them separately doesn’t.

This is more far reaching than it seems and is nothing else than the phenomenon called spontaneous symmetry breaking that has been keeping a good number of physicists busy during the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st. Because there is only one universe that we can observe, whenever a physical process has the same characteristics as the above problem, the physical world has to choose one of the solutions and “break” the symmetry of the problem.

Now in any physical process, the experimental conditions are never perfect and small perturbations are likely to push the system to this or that particular solution so there is nothing super-weird about what’s happening here.

But there are phenomena where an external nudge to the system can’t explain the symmetry breaking: the ones that are at the origin of the universe. Cosmologists are actually still debating explanations to why the universe is so dissymmetrical (the arrow of time, the four fundamental forces, the inhomogeneity of matter, etc.) whereas the equations that seem to describe it are so symmetrical.

Many plausible explanations do exist, such as that our observable universe is part of a bigger “multiverse”. The weaker versions of this idea still consider a connected symmetrical universe that is one big multidimensional space-time continuum with different local regions where symmetry is broken in all possible ways. But why do we need the connectedness at all? Is it even an option? If you look at the square problem above, those two solutions are entirely disconnected and you couldn’t find a connected symmetrical solution if you tried. Why would the multiverse then need to be connected?

This leads us to the strongest version of the multiverse concept, the Mathematical Universe Hypothesis. The idea behind this is to attribute reality to all mathematical structures and to postulate that our observable universe is just one of this infinite number of structures (in an interesting case of taking the map for the territory).

Mathematical structures have this interesting property that they exist independently of culture, the human mind and even physics. Group theory for example could be discovered in any universe and would yield the exact same list of finite groups. In other words, they have lots of the qualities we associate with the reality of our own physical universe. Going from that to the idea that our physical world is just emerging from that primordial mathematical soup is quite tempting.

Now of course, it has been objected that such an idea is not testable or falsifiable and thus cannot be called scientific. That is absolutely true. But it does have that Occam’s razor quality of simplifying some of the apparent complexity of our universe. It also has the advantage of being an entirely naturalistic hypothesis to the origin of the universe if you’re into that sort of thing.

All this to give you an idea of the rush of ideas that went through my 20 year old brain at the precise moment when that professor showed us those two simple diagrams that you see above, oblivious at the time that those ideas that seemed so new and original to me had actually already been invented and debated a couple of years earlier. I felt at this instant the raw explanatory power of science and also its ability to extend its influence way beyond its self-imposed limits of testability. It is without a doubt the most powerful instrument of thinking and the best catalyst of ideas that the human mind has invented…
